Son Heung-min’s agency promises to take legal action over the alleged exorbitant nightclub expenditures.

The agency of Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min on Sunday issued a statement refuting a recent report that he partied with Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich and other German players in a Seoul nightclub, spending a substantial amount of money.

“We’ve discovered that the club’s staff disseminated this kind of fake information to advertise their business. Son & Football Limited Co. assured you that Son did not go to the club or spend so much money. It promised to bring criminal charges for slander against the concerned club.

After Son played 75 minutes in front of a sold-out crowd at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Saturday during a friendly match between Tottenham and Bayern, the rumor made the rounds online. It claimed that following the game, Son and the others went to a nightclub in Gangnam, southern Seoul, where they spent about 30 million won ($22,000).

The rumor-spreaders, according to Son’s agency, had tarnished Son’s reputation and honor since he “is well aware of his place as a public figure and is leading a life of moderation.”

“(The agency) will not tolerate any false rumor or malicious comments related to Son, and will pursue legal actions without settlement of any kind,” warned the business.

Son, 32, just finished his seventh season in the English Premier League as a player for Spurs. As captain of the South Korean men’s national team, he is regarded as one of the greatest Asian soccer players of all time.
