‘Sounds horrible’: 21-year-old Leeds footballer might return to his former club, and he’s on large money – Journalist

Joe Gelhardt was an unused substitute in Leeds United’s win against Norwich City last night, as he battles to find playing time under Daniel Farke – and he could return to Wigan Athletic this month.

That is according to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who believes Gelhardt, 21, will leave the club before the end of the window. Since September, the striker has played only five minutes.

Daniel Farke

LeedsUnited.News met with journalist Bailey this week, and he believes League One club Peterborough has been mooted as a potential destination, as has a return to Wigan. Bailey claims to earn a high salary.

“Interesting one, but hasn’t kicked in. According to what I’ve heard, he’s in for a hefty payday for the Championship. His team status belies his salary range. That is a problem for Leeds, as they will have to cover a large portion of that wage.

“Someone mentioned Peterborough to me. It sounds dreadful to laugh about, but it is only a matter of time before he returns to Wigan, possibly for the summer. Could he get there this month? Would not rule it out.”

Graeme Bailey: Joe Gelhardt may return to Wigan from Leeds.
Gelhardt’s name has been linked with a number of clubs this month. Plymouth have previously raided Leeds for Darko Gyabi and signed Adam Forshaw. They are reportedly interested in signing the striker.

Blackburn, Hull, and Preston are all interested, and he has been linked with Celtic and Rangers, although it is unclear whether Leeds can approve another non-English loan deal. He is interested.

Whether he leaves Leeds this month or stays and fights for his place, possibly hoping for an injury in the last third, remains to be seen. We will find out within the following several days.
