According to Phil Hay, the transfer of ownership of Elland Road to 49ers Enterprises at Leeds United is likely in the near future.
Andrea Radrizzani is still listed as the stadium’s owner, but the summer takeover was supposed to have included an agreement for Elland Road as well.
Following the recent publication of documents, this has become somewhat of a saga, but sources close to the sale have cleared the air in the last 24 hours.
Hay, writing for The Athletic, provided the most recent update on the stadium story that has unfolded in West Yorkshire over the last few weeks and months.
“As yet, there are no updates on Companies House about a change of ownership, but the 49ers’ buy-out of Radrizzani included an agreement for the group to acquire 100 per cent of Elland Road and sources with knowledge of the deal — speaking anonymously to protect confidentiality agreements — have told The Athletic that the handover is due to be registered at Companies House in the near future,” he wrote in a statement.
Finally.
These things take time, and it now appears that the 49ers Enterprises will have complete control of the team, paving the path for the club to move forward.
Once the documentation is handled and filed, everyone will breathe a sigh of relief that the 49ers have complete control and can move forward with rebuilding plans.
Elland Road has been a thorny issue for the club for several decades, but having it in the hands of people who want to move forward is a huge step forward.
Given his work in San Francisco and the creation of Levi‘s Stadium, Paraag Marathe will have his own ambitions for the stadium, which will no doubt delight every fan.
Companies House has been working with Leeds and their paperwork, and hopefully, once this arrangement is in writing, we can all move forward with confidence.
Bring it on.
