Tottenham News understands that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will not be offered a new contract in North London.
Since Ange Postecoglou took over at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Danish international has slid down the pecking order.
After being a regular in Spurs’ starting lines for several years, the midfielder has only started five Premier League games this season.
As a result, a Spurs recruitment source has told Tottenham News that if the 28-year-old does not depart this month, he will be released in the summer.
Hojbjerg’s Tottenham contract expires in 18 months, and Tottenham News has learned that the club will not offer him a new agreement.
The player himself wishes to depart in search of more regular first-team football.
Sky Sports News recently reported online in their live transfer centre (16 January, 5:48 pm) that Hojbjerg’s situation at the club is set to come down to the final days of the window, with Spurs refusing to accept a cut-price deal for the former Southampton man, who has sparked interest in Serie A.
Tottenham News has learned that the club is still in a good position with Hojbjerg, with the player expected to be worth a lot of money in the summer if no solution is found for him this month.
Tottenham recruited Hojbjerg from Southampton three and a half years ago for a reported £15 million (Sky Sports News, 12 August 2020).
He started all 38 Premier League games in his debut season with Tottenham and has made 167 appearances for the club in total, scoring 10 goals and assisting 16 times.
In other Tottenham news, the club is headed in the right direction following a recent announcement.
