Tottenham are in advanced talks with Aston Villa’s Rob MacKenzie, according to sources.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are in advanced talks with Aston Villa’s recruitment chief Rob MacKenzie.
The Premier League leaders are negotiating a new contract with MacKenzie, who spent 18 months at the club from 2015 to 2016.
Tottenham have targeted Aston Villa’s head of recruitment after announcing on October 9th that Johan Lange would be joining the Midlands giants as their technical director.
The Dane is set to start at Spurs on Wednesday and will be in charge of recruitment, analytics, and talent identification across the club’s senior and academy teams.
Tottenham is eager to reunite Lange with MacKenzie, who has been Villa’s head of recruitment since August 2020.
He previously worked in senior recruitment roles at Derby County and OH Leuven in Belgium, after making his name as Tottenham’s head of player identification, which involved recommending scouting targets to the club’s transfer team.
Lange was pushed out of Villa Park after Monchi was appointed president of football operations in the summer, effectively putting the Spaniard in charge of first-team recruitment.
NSWE, the club’s owners, had been concerned about Lange’s transfer record during his three-year tenure at the club.
He was in charge of signing flops like Bertrand Traore, Morgan Sanson, and Leon Bailey for large fees, as well as more successful stars like Ollie Watkins and Matty Cash.
Lange joined Villa as global director of football development in June 2023, having previously served as sporting director since 2020.
