Journalist Dean Jones wrote in his SportsLens column that if Tottenham’s pursuit of Conor Gallagher fails, they may seek to sign Blackburn Rovers prodigy Adam Wharton this window.
Wharton, who broke into Blackburn‘s starting eleven last season, has since established himself in the Championship club’s midfield, and a number of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the 19-year-old.
Tottenham‘s interest in the adolescent first surfaced in November, when 90min reported that the club had scouted him extensively this season.
However, the publication made it clear that Ange Postecoglou‘s side would face stiff competition for the centre midfielder, with Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United all keeping an eye on him.
Football Insider reported Spurs’ interest in the Rovers player a little over a week ago, but said that the Ewood Park leadership had no intention of allowing the player leave in the middle of the season, so the Premier League club may have to wait until next summer.
Adam Wharton might be a Gallagher alternative for Tottenham.
Jones has recently stated that, while Tottenham is still looking into a trade for Gallagher, conversations for the England international have not advanced.
As a result, he believes Spurs may attempt to’strike an early deal’ for Wharton before the window closes at the end of the month.
The journalist believes that a bid of roughly £10 million would be sufficient to bring the young midfielder to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs Web Opinion
One would believe that Wharton is considered as a future prospect, whereas Gallagher is viewed as someone who can immediately strengthen the starting lineup. So, I’m not sure if Tottenham would have considered the Blackburn teenager as an option to the Chelsea star.
