Spurs express ‘strong interest’ in signing 6ft 4in star; £15m deal could be done – report

Tottenham have expressed ‘strong interest’ in signing Jonathan Tah.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ‘very interested’ in signing Bayer Leverkusen player Jonathan Tah this summer, according to the German magazine Sport Bild.

Jonathan Tah
The 28-year-old has had a standout season, scoring four goals and preserving seven clean sheets in 19 Bundesliga games.

This season, Die Werkself has been on a title charge under Xavi Alonso‘s leadership, and Tah has played an important role in the Spaniard’s starting lineup.

Tottenham appear to have expressed an interest in signing the German after being impressed by his recent eye-catching displays.

Sport Witness, citing and translating the print version of Sport Bild, said that Tottenham are looking to sign a new defender this summer and are ‘very interested’ in Tah.

According to the source, the defender is about to enter the final year of his present contract, which means he could leave Bayer Leverkusen during the offseason unless he inks a new contract with the German club.

Tah to Tottenham
According to Bild, Tah’s current deal includes a £15 million release clause, which may be activated during the summer transfer window. As a result, Spurs will be able to get his services at a low cost.

The 28-year-old, who is 6ft 4in tall, is strong, superb in the air, comfortable playing out of the back, effective in defensive duties, and can contribute to some key goals.

The German is a gifted player who has shown glimpses of his abilities in the Bundesliga over the last few years. So, if he moves to the newly restored White Hart Lane this summer, North London fans will be hoping he can emulate his Premier League performance.

Ange Postecoglou, on the other hand, like to use a left-footed defender on the left side of his defence, and he currently does not have any left-footed centre-backs other than Micky van de Ven. So, instead of signing Tah, the Lilywhites should sign a new left-footed defender.

However, it would be intriguing to watch whether Tottenham decides to make a formal move to sign the Leverkusen star to strengthen their backline this summer.
