According to De Morgen, Tottenham Hotspur have numerous potential obstacles in completing a deal for Gift Orban, including the possibility that the striker prefers to join Lille over the North London club.
There has been much said and written about Tottenham‘s pursuit of Orban in recent weeks, but it was revealed on Monday (Football Insider) that the Lilywhites will face competition from Premier League rivals Fulham for the striker’s signature.
The Cottagers are interested on signing a centre-forward following the sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic to Al-Hilal and have identified the 21-year-old as a potential target to replace the Serbian, according to the publication.
Orban favours Lille to Tottenham Hotspur.
De Morgen has now backed up Fulham’s interest in Orban, claiming Lille is also interested in the Nigerian.
According to the report, Tottenham is still in ‘close communication’ with the player’s entourage and intends to make a formal offer for him after trimming their team.
However, it is suggested that Orban would have to settle for a reserve role at Spurs or go out on loan after joining with the club.
The Premier League club’s plans’may not suit’ the centre-forward, according to the outlet. According to the source, the Gent star ‘would prefer Lille‘s sporting project,’ but the Ligue 1 club is unlikely to meet his €30 million (£25.6 million) asking price.
De Morgen further claims that the aforementioned fee may cause Spurs and Fulham to ‘think twice’ about signing Orban this summer.
Tottenham are expected to pursue Orban after offloading Lloris, Ndombele, Tanganga, Reguilon, and Sanchez in the coming days.
However, it is also feasible that the 21-year-old may be hesitant to relocate to North London and will want to join a club where he will be guaranteed regular playing time.
