Tottenham have received a significant help in their desire to recruit Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer, as interest in the striker from elsewhere dwindled.
On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that, while a trade would only be done on Spurs’ terms, a £50 million fee should suffice to get it done.
Toney is considered as a solution to the club’s striker problems, with 20 goals in his previous complete Premier League season grabbing the attention.
This season, the striker scored four goals in 15 appearances after returning from a lengthy suspension for breaking the FA’s gambling rules.
O’Rourke noted that previous interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, as reported by Football Insider, has strangely subsided, leaving him a free go at forward.
Tottenham granted free run in Ivan Toney transfer deal.
Since Harry Kane’s departure last summer, Ange Postecoglou’s club has been without an orthodox central striker, despite Heung-min Son’s strong performances.
Toney’s ability to hold up play, get his teammates into the game, and score goals in abundance make him an excellent choice and top target for the club.
A £50 million move might benefit both sides, as Toney joined Brentford for only £5 million in 2020, allowing them to earn a significant profit.
During that time, he helped the club gain promotion and establish itself in the Premier League.
Tottenham, meanwhile, would be securing a deal for an England international with a proven track record of Premier League goal scoring.
According to Football Insider, West Ham could compete for Toney’s signature, although the forward is thought to prefer a transfer to North London.
In other developments, Emerson Royal is seeking for a new club following the recent “bombshell”.
