The excellent player simply hasn’t been good enough in North London.
Tottenham Hotspur has had mixed results with transfers in recent seasons. Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, and even James Maddison have all contributed to the team’s overall improvement.
However, the club has also attracted players like as Emerson Royal, Giovani Lo Celso, and Tanguy Ndombele, who have not enhanced the team’s standards.
However, there is one signing who appeared to belong in the first camp before rapidly moving to the second, and his worth has dropped to half that of Timo Werner, which is not a good sign.
As a result, it’s time for the team to cut its losses and move on before his value plummets even more.
Yves Bissouma’s Spurs Career
The player in question is Mali international Yves Bissouma, who signed for Antonio Conte’s Spurs in the summer of 2022 for about £25 million after impressing at Brighton and Hove Albion.
Unfortunately for everyone involved, despite his record at the Amex, the 27-year-old’s debut season in north London was terrible for a variety of reasons.
First, despite signing him in the summer, it appeared that Conte did not trust him. In 2022/23, he made 28 appearances in all competitions, 12 of which were starts.
To make matters worse, he fractured his ankle halfway through the season, missing 17 games for club and country.
Fortunately for the Issia-born ace, the former Chelsea manager was fired before the end of the season and replaced by Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
The Australian apparently had a better impression of the midfielder, as he started him in the first eight league games of the year. However, in the eighth game, he was sent off for diving, which former player Dean Ashton condemned as “ridiculous.”
Since then, the midfielder’s play has dipped, and according to Times journalist Tom Allnutt, Ange may have finally lost faith in him.
On The Tottenham Way Podcast, the writer stated, “I’ve heard a couple of whispers about Bissouma that he’s not the right fit for Ange in terms of personality and play.”
In total, the former LOSC Lille ace has made 56 appearances for the Lilywhites since signing two years ago, and given how this year has gone, he is unlikely to make many more, which has naturally damaged his value.
Yves Bissouma’s value in 2024
According to the CIES Football Observatory, Bissouma is now worth only €15 million, which is equivalent to approximately £13 million, or £12 million less than the club paid to recruit him in 2022.
It also means that Werner, valued at €30 million (£26 million) by the CIES Football Observatory, is currently twice as valuable as the former Brighton star, despite scoring only four goals and assisting four times in 28 appearances for Spurs and RB Leipzig this season.
However, the German’s valuation is likely aided by the fact that there are genuine reports about him signing a permanent contract with the north Londoners in the summer, as opposed to rumours regarding his dismissal.
Bissouma was a fantastic player for the Seagulls, but for whatever reason, it did not work out with Tottenham. The fact that his worth has already dropped so substantially is only more reason that the club should try to sell him this summer before it falls much worse.
