On Sunday, two attackers took Yves Bissouma, a midfielder for Tottenham, away from his expensive watch.
The incident happened at approximately 04:00 local time (03:00 BST) on the French Riviera while the 27-year-old Mali international was with his spouse outside a hotel.
Following media reports, Bissouma‘s lawyer Bastien Caire revealed that two hooded men attacked him with tear gas as he was making his way back to his hotel. They seized his watch, which was valued at 300,000 euros (£255,000), and then they ran away.
While the inquiry is still ongoing, Caire declined to provide additional comments.
“We are aware of the incident that took place and we will continue to check on the welfare of Yves and his family,” Tottenham said in a statement.
Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton for £25m plus add-ons in the summer of 2022.
He made 28 appearances for the club last season, when they finished fifth in the Premier League and qualified for the Europa League.
