Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt of a centre-back continues in the January transfer window, with the club considering signing two rather than one
According to Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are in talks to recruit Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.
The Lilywhites have made substantial progress in the previous few days toward finalizing a deal for Radu Dragusin, one of their top center-back targets.
Fabrizio Romano, a well-known journalist, revealed previously that talks between Tottenham and Genoa are nearing completion. Representatives from North London expect the transaction to be completed by next week. Spurs may transfer their emphasis to another center-half, given that one is nearly certain to be signed.
Christensen’s current contract with the La Liga giants runs until June 2026, with two and a half years remaining.
This season, the Danish international has been a regular in Xavi’s starting lineup, earning 19 games.
The Spanish giants recruited the 27-year-old on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2022, signing him to a four-year contract with a €500 million release clause.
Last season, Christensen and created a strong defensive pairing that helped Barcelona keep the most clean sheets in Europe’s top five divisions.
According to the report, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the centre-back’s status and are ready to make a bid given the Spanish club’s financial crisis.
The former Chelsea player has extensive Premier League experience, having appeared in 161 games for the Blues, which may be important to either suitor.
Christensen, nicknamed “the Danish Maldini” by West London fans during his time in England, is a dependable center-half known for his poise on the field. He’s strong in the air and at ease with the ball at his feet.
Ange Postecoglou would prefer a defender of Christensen’s caliber, but would not force the club to pursue him if Dragusin is secured.
