Spurs reportedly rejected an £8.4 million deal last week and now want twice that amount

After weeks of speculation, AC Milan made their first offer for Tottenham right-back Emerson Royal, but it is just half of what Tottenham has demanded for.

AC Milan appears to have been pursuing Emerson Royal for a long time, with Fabrizio Romano revealing in mid-May that the Brazilian is one of many Tottenham Hotspur players anticipated to leave in the summer.

Emerson has helped to expedite the process by telling Globo in July that he is not a player who sits on the bench. I want to play. If not here, I understand, but let me go somewhere where I can play.

Postecoglou only started the Brazilian eleven times in the league last season, with Pedro Porro obviously preferred over the former Barcelona defender.

Emerson Royal

It’s hardly surprising Emerson has discussed a move away from N17, given Fabrizio Romano’s allegations that the right-back has already agreed to a five-year contract with Milan, with personal terms not an issue.
Alasdair Gold revealed on July 12th that AC Milan had made an initial formal proposal for Emerson, but the offer fell short of Tottenham’s €20 million (£16.8 million) assessment of the defender, and that Borussia Dortmund is also interested in the midfielder.

According to Alasdair Gold, Milan only offered €10 million (£8.4 million) for Emerson.

It was understood that the bid’s worth had been orally rejected at first, but Milan later made a formal offer of the same price, indicating yet another formal rejection.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal has apparently stalled with no progress made since Milan’s initial offer was turned down due to the significant valuation gap between the parties.

I agree that Tottenham should be more aggressive in selling players and obtaining transfer fees to give Postecoglou the flexibility to reshape his team, but Milan’s initial bid for Emerson is far less than what he is worth.

The 25-year-old has played for both Barcelona and Tottenham and has 10 caps for Brazil. Emerson’s current contract still has two years left on it, so the Spurs have every right, in my opinion, to turn down such a low-ball offer.
