Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou will be trying to propel his team into the Premier League’s top four when they meet Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
The Lilywhites are now fifth, one spot and one point behind North London rivals Arsenal, but a victory over the Red Devils would propel Tottenham to fourth until the Gunners’ next game on January 20.
Tottenham have apparently been quoted a high amount to sign a Premier League player on loan before the match.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham would have to pay around £5-6 million to take Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Philips on loan.
The Englishman joined City from his hometown club Leeds United in the summer of 2022, but has had a difficult time at The Etihad thus far.
Phillips has made just 31 appearances in all competitions, including ten this season.
Phillips‘ chronic lack of playing time has forced the central midfielder to be extensively linked with a transfer away from The Etihad, with Spurs being one of several clubs interested in signing him.
The Lilywhites are reportedly looking for midfield reinforcements, and the 28-year-old England international is among those being considered by the North London club.
A deal would likely see Phillips join Spurs on loan for the duration of the season, but it is unclear whether the agreement would include an option to buy.
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has also been extensively linked with a move to Spurs, although the Englishman’s importance to current Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino may make the mooted transfer tough to accomplish.
