Tottenham is gearing up for an outrageous raid for a forward who is making waves throughout Europe this season
In his first season as Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou managed with a relatively small team, but he now appears to have an idea of what needs to be strengthened in order to compete in Europe the following season.
While defenders are a top priority, this summer’s transfer plan also appears to include adding players to Richarlison, Heung-min Son, Brennan Johnson, and Dejan Kulusevski‘s forward line.
Tottenham is reportedly looking to trade for Djed Spence, who is presently on loan at the Serie A team, in order to bring Genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson to north London, according to Italian daily Calciomercato.
Gudmundsson has been Genoa’s best performer this season, contributing three assists and 13 goals in 31 games. Impressive, given that the 26-year-old Icelandic plays mostly as an attacking midfielder for a squad that is presently ranked 12th in the Italian premier league.
However, it is said that Spurs plan to acquire Gudmundsson by means of a bold trade with Djed Spence, who joined from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 for £20 million. The 23-year-old has only made six appearances for Tottenham in all competitions; but, since that high-profile transfer, he has spent time on loan at Rennes last season, Leeds earlier in the campaign, and now Genoa.
Therefore, FourFourTwo believes it is doubtful that Genoa will agree to a straightforward swap agreement. Spurs would probably need to make an offer of Spence plus cash to acquire Gudmundsson instead, given how crucial his goals have been to the team this year. Furthermore, Spence and the Icelandic international are not like-for-like, so Genoa would still need to spend money on offense in spite of any swap agreement.
