Steve McManaman, a former winger for Liverpool, does not want Douglas Luiz or Youri Tielemans to join his former team
Jurgen Klopp has been encouraged by Steve McManaman not to bring in Douglas Luiz or Youri Tielemans for Liverpool.
In the summer, Liverpool made a move to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, but the France international ended up signing with Real Madrid. The Reds reportedly tried to sign Luis from Aston Villa on the final day of the transfer window. Instead, they obtained the season-long loan of fellow Brazil international Arthur Melo from Juventus.
Jude Bellingham, an England international who plays for Borussia Dortmund, is expected to be the target of a bid from Liverpool next summer. Meanwhile, Tielemans, whose contract with Leicester City expires this summer and who appears unlikely to extend it, has also been linked with a move to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to upgrade his midfield.
However, former Red McManaman urges Klopp to avoid both Luiz and the Belgian international, who might both become free agents when their contracts expire next summer.
Both Youri Tielemans and Douglas Luiz are excellent Premier League players, but in my opinion, they aren’t good enough for Liverpool, McManaman said to Horseracing.net. “Regardless of whether Douglas Luiz’s contract is about to expire or not, I don’t think Liverpool will be making a wise financial decision by making a play for him.
“I think he’s a terrific player, but I think he needs to be quicker in many of his movements to fit Liverpool’s style of play. Not just players who want to join a squad and sit around, but individuals who can start for Liverpool.
“Youri Tielemans’ contract is also slated to expire at the same time, but if you want to play for the finest teams in Europe, it can be challenging to locate players who will help your team.
They’re both excellent Premier League players, so I don’t want to disparage either of them. Do they have what it takes to start for one of the top teams in the world? Currently, I just don’t believe it.
