Latest Liverpool news and gossip: Steven Gerrard says he recently chatted with former Reds captain Jordan Henderson, who left Al-Ettifaq to join Ajax during the January transfer window.
Steven Gerrard has sent a sincere message to former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
Henderson departed Liverpool last summer to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, capping up a 12-year stint at Anfield.
The 33-year-old departed Liverpool to join Gerrard, the manager of the Saudi Pro League club.
However, after leaving Liverpool for Al-Ettifaq for £12 million, Henderson only made 19 appearances for the club.
The England international departed the Saudi club to join Ajax during the January transfer window, where he has played nine games.
Gerrard is still the manager of Al-Ettifaq, but his managerial position permits him to take a break this week, giving him the opportunity to return to Merseyside.
The former Liverpool captain appeared for Liverpool Legends versus Ajax at Anfield on Saturday, with several former teammates, including Fernando Torres.
Prior to kickoff, Ajax‘s X (previously known as Twitter) account aired a video of Gerrard answering questions regarding his return to Anfield.
One query asked the Liverpool veteran if he had a message for Henderson, who currently plays for Ajax’s top team in the Eredivisie.
Gerrard responds
Gerrard answered by disclosing that he recently spoke with Henderson and extended his best wishes to his countryman.
“We miss him [Henderson],” Gerrard stated. “We mourn him. He was a nice guy and a fantastic player.
But I am delighted he is happy. I chatted with him on the phone a few weeks ago, and he’s OK. He’s content and settled.
And he is looking forward to the end of the season.”
Gerrard was also asked what he was looking forward to the most about the Liverpool Legends game. Gerrard responded with, “The crowd”.
He went on to say, “I believe this is the best stadium in the world.
I played against Ajax, another fantastic club. It will be a fantastic task.”
