Everyone was taken aback by Djed Spence’s departure from Leeds United on Thursday night when the team revealed that the defender had rejoined Tottenham. Daniel Farke will have to make a choice on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Spence had had a rough start at Leeds. After making his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in September, he sustained an injury during practice. It caused him to miss three months of action.
The Whites have now chosen to terminate his loan at Elland Road following seven appearances for Leeds. Spence looks to be out of Ange Postecoglou‘s plans, thus it appears like he will go on loan once more, but to a different team.
Leeds does have a wide range of full-back options in defence. Junior Firpo is back to full fitness, and Archie Gray has been outstanding on the right. Another hamstring injury has struck Sam Byram. Luke Ayling is experiencing knee pain.
With Jamie Shackleton also out, it is uncertain if Ayling will be ready for Leeds’ match against Peterborough United on Sunday. Farke has a choice of three full-backs to select from in order to play Peterborough on Sunday.
After Djed Spence leaves, Daniel Farke undoubtedly starts Archie Gray.
Now that Spence is back with the Spurs, it’s especially simple to guess who will be on the right side. Gray, a player who Neil Redfearn recently called “sensational,” undoubtedly gets off to a right start.
Gray might have received a break if Spence had stayed, as Daniel Farke had previously talked about Gray’s workload and the player’s desire for time off. With Spence gone, though, Grey undoubtedly gets going.
Some peripheral players, such as Ilia Gruev, Ian Poveda, Patrick Bamford, Willy Gnonto, and Mateo Joseph, may join the fray. But it appears that Grey will very certainly keep his starting position.
