According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Swansea City made a last-minute attempt to sabotage Fleetwood’s deal to sign Leeds United striker Darko Gyabi.
The 19-year-old midfielder had agreed to go on loan to Fleetwood, and the deal was almost finalised.
Swansea, however, has sought to sabotage the agreement at the last minute and bring Gyabi to Wales.
Late in the transfer window, the Swans sought to improve their midfield and moved rapidly to try to recruit Gyabi.
The youthful midfielder has only made one appearance in Leeds‘ Championship campaign thus far after making a brief appearance in the closing seconds of their 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town.
In the League Cup match against Shrewsbury Town, Gyabi also played for 45 minutes, but Daniel Farke seems to prefer the midfield partnership of Archie Grey and Ethan Ampadu.
When Kalvin Phillips was sold to Manchester City last summer, Gyabi moved to Elland Road as an intriguing potential.
The coaching staff at Leeds believes a loan arrangement is the best course of action for the former City youth standout’s development at the Yorkshire club because he has had difficulty getting playing time.
Last season, Gyabi played 24 times for Leeds‘ youth team, starting as a deep-midfielder and contributing four times in goals and assists.
After a terrible start to the year that saw them fall into the League One relegation positions, Fleetwood Town will keep looking for midfield reinforcements.
