The 32-year-old will now be allowed to leave the club this summer after it was reported that Leeds United made a move in late January

In January, Leeds United made a few hurried attempts to sign centre backs.

The lone player the Whites signed during the window was Connor Roberts, who came from Burnley on loan to finish the season as a right-back.

Roberts has discovered that it is difficult for anyone who arrived at Elland Road last month to break into Daniel Farke‘s starting lineup, but it does not imply he hasn’t had a significant impact.

Leeds continued to make attempts for a few centre backs, including Harry Souttar, Ben Godfrey, and Joe Worrall, all of whom Nick Hammond and associates attempted but were unable to sign.

Journalist Joel Bland is now claiming that Paul Dummett of Newcastle United, who Leeds is rumoured to have looked for, will depart St. James’ Park on a free agent in the summer after no deal was reached.

Dummett is free to depart Newcastle.

On the day of the deadline, transfer insider Dean Jones said that Leeds had considered Dummett as a late-blooming alternative, should they find value in him.

The 32-year-old, who has only played four minutes of Premier League football this season, appears to have decided to stay at Newcastle, suggesting that the transfer never really got off the ground.

After he accepted a pay cut last summer to prolong his stay at the club by one more year, it is rumoured that the Magpies have decided not to give him a new contract at the conclusion of the season.

It seems unlikely that Leeds will attempt to bring him back, even though he is scheduled to be available for free, regardless of whether they are promoted to the Premier League or not.

Dummett hasn’t really kicked a ball for Newcastle in any of the previous three seasons, and Leeds‘ new owners haven’t really tried to add anyone in that way thus far.
