If Tottenham’s winning streak during this current season under Ange Postecoglou continues, they risk paying a hefty additional sum for Micky van de Ven. Despite selling their all-time leading scorer Harry Kane during the summer transfer window, the north London team is still unbeaten and at the top of the Premier League. Postecoglou‘s summer additions have all adjusted well, and Van de Ven has been one of their standout defenders.
Following a standout season in the Bundesliga the previous year, the Dutchman signed with Wolfsburg in July in a deal worth £43 million, with Spurs moving quickly to complete the transfer as one of Postecoglou’s primary priorities. It has turned out to be a wise move, as Van de Ven is already well-liked by the supporters after scoring the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Luton Town.
After a strong start, Spurs had been predicted to mount a serious top-four campaign this year and potentially even contend for the championship. And if Van de Ven is successful in assisting them in making the Champions League, his new team will be required to pay Wolfsburg a huge sum of money.
Sport Witness said that chairman Daniel Levy agreed to attach a clause stating that Spurs would pay £8.6 million (€10 million) if they qualified for the newly constructed 2024–25 Champions League group stage. With five English teams possibly competing, that seems to be a possibility.
