Billionaire Evangelos Marinakis has received support once more to expand his collection of football clubs, as rumors of a possible connection with AC Monza in Italy surface.
After the passing of Monza’s owner Silvio Berlusconi a little over a year ago, Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis was connected to the purchase of the team.
Through their holding firm Fininvest, the Berlusconi family still owns Monza, who placed 12th in Serie A last season. They have reportedly been chosen as the next team Marinakis wants to add to his impressive collection of teams, according to reports.
In addition to Forest, which under Marinakis’ direction has been promoted back to the Premier League and is currently gearing up for its third consecutive season in the top division and Nuno Espirito Santo’s first full season there, the businessman also owns Olympiacos, the Europa Conference League champions from his native Greece, and Rio Ave, a Portuguese team that was acquired in November of last year.
Therefore, it’s not out of the question that we could witness another team from a different nation become the next team to sign on with the Marinakis football folder. Resurgent rumors suggest that Monza might be that team, and there have even been reports that Marinakis has discussed a possible acquisition with the Berlusconi family.
