There is ‘no chance’- Ange Postecoglou will offload a £27 million Tottenham player in January

Despite interest from Spanish champions Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur will not sell Giovani Lo Celso in the January transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou‘s team eventually stopped their losing streak on Sunday with a great victory over Newcastle United. They appear to be back on track, but the month of January will be crucial. All eyes will be on the incomings, but there may be a few departures as well. Lo Celso, on the other hand, will not be one of them, according to Dean Jones.

Giovani Lo Celso will not be sold by Tottenham in January.

Tottenham made Giovani Lo Celso‘s first loan deal permanent in January 2020 for £27.2 million (BBC).

Giovani Lo Celso

When he originally arrived at Spurs, the Argentine showed great promise, but he gradually fell out of favour. Nobody liked him, not even Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte, and everyone expected him to go last summer.

Ange Postecoglou, on the other hand, retained hold of Lo Celso, and following James Maddison’s injury, the 27-year-old has seen some solid game time.

Regardless, Barcelona is interested in signing him in January. Xavi has reportedly asked his club’s transfer chiefs to sign Tottenham midfielder Harry Kane next month.

However, journalist Jones claims that Postecoglou’s Tottenham will not sell Lo Celso during the forthcoming January transfer window.

Giovani Lo Celso

“[As a squad player], you have to consider what success is,” he told GiveMeSport. I believe that being a part of a team like Tottenham right now, if you’re receiving good game time, is sufficient.

“Even if you come in as a sub, you’re playing the same amount of time as the starter.” Games are becoming longer than 100 minutes. So, if you come on at half-time, you’re getting longer than the guy who started the contest. This is a necessary aspect of being a squad player, like Lo Celso has been. He’ll have additional opportunities.

“I think he’s going to be an important player, and I think the most telling factor of all here is that Tottenham are going to want to hold on to him for now, and there’s no chance of him leaving.”

Lo Celso might be an important player for Tottenham.

Giovani Lo Celso is not Tottenham’s first choice, and he probably never will be.

Once he returns, James Maddison will start almost every game, and following Dejan Kulusevski‘s performance in midfield against Newcastle, he, too, may be ahead of Lo Celso in the pecking order for the number 10 spot.

However, the Argentine might still play an important role off the bench. He has already demonstrated that he fits Postecoglou’s system and that he can contribute goals, as evidenced by his goals against Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Keeping Lo Celso in January makes the most sense in our eyes, and we don’t expect that to change unless a significant offer comes in next month.
