There is now a ‘tug of war’ within Leeds United about the future of their 20-year-old player

In January, Leeds United are engaged in an internal ‘tug of war’ for the future of Wilfried Gnonto.

Everton showed a lot of interest in Gnonto this summer, and Leeds turned down four different offers, the final of which was over £25 million.

San Francisco 49ers Enterprises made it clear from the outset of the summer that Gnonto was someone they wanted to keep, and they stayed to their promise, even though the Italian’s season did not go as planned.

Gnonto has started just six of Leeds‘ 22 Championship games this season, scoring once and assisting once, with his solitary goal of the season coming in August against Ipswich Town.

And, according to transfer insider, there looks to be some disagreement within the club about how to address Gnonto’s future in January.

Leeds should keep Gnonto.

“Honestly, this is like a tug of war internally over whether Gnonto stays or goes,” Jones remarked. There was genuine debate about his signing a new deal a few weeks ago. So it appears to be a significant turnaround for them to now be willing to offload him when that has never been their stance before.

“Obviously, there was the summer saga, and he came back and got back into things, and now he’s out of the side again.” Leeds supporters definitely forgave him at first, and now they’re probably wondering what’s going on in the long run.”

There is no reason for Leeds to rush to offload Gnonto, who demonstrated his quality in the Premier League last season.

According to Phil Hay of the Athletic, Gnonto is seriously considering replacing his representation following the summer catastrophe.

Given that his agent was constantly at the forefront of everything that happened in the summer, this would be a huge step in the right direction for making it apparent that he wants to stay at Leeds.

Leeds must ward off any January interest, as there is no doubt Gnonto can play a significant role in the second half of the season.
