Kieran Tierney, a former Celtic favorite, is a surprise addition to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team for the Champions League.
The 27-year-old Scotland international left-back has been an outsider at the London club recently and spent the previous season on loan at Real Sociedad. Interestingly, Tierney hasn’t played for the Gunners in a competitive match since May 2023.
The well-liked former Hoops performer was acquired by former manager Unai Emery for a then-record Scottish transfer fee of £25 million in the summer of 2019.
That was surpassed by Filipe Jota’s move to Al-Attihad in July 2023 and exceeded by Matt O’Riley’s nearly $30 million move to Brighton last week.
With Arteta’s pool downsized from twenty-two to twenty-three after the club failed to include eight players with local training, Tierney is the lone surprise.
A journey to Atalanta in Italy is how Arsenal will begin the redesigned top tournament two weeks from today. The team will also travel to play Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon, and Girona on the road.
They play Monaco, Dinamo Zagreb, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Paris Saint-Germain at home.
