Richarlison of Tottenham could be crucial in determining whether Ange Postecoglou can sign Dominic Solanke this summer.
After scoring 19 goals in the Premier League the previous season, the Bournemouth striker has been much sought after and was thought to be unlucky to not be selected for Euro 2024.
The 26-year-old’s contract is supposedly set to expire in 2027, but there is a £65 million release clause. Although that would be a record-breaking signing for Spurs, the cost might be a problem given that the club has already paid £30 million to acquire Archie Gray from Leeds United this summer.
A deal for Solanke would almost probably need to be pushed through with a significant money sell. Furthermore, the Times reports that Richarlison’s departure—who has already been connected to a move to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia—may have to be approved in order to finance any prospective transfer.
Richarlison has stated in the past that he is not interested in moving to the Middle East, even though the club is willing to let him depart. The Brazilian, who signed a two-year contract for £51 million after leaving Everton, has three years remaining on it. He had a strong second season in north London.
With just three goals in 35 club appearances during his debut season, there were rumors of a low-ball exit. He did, however, score 12 goals in the 2023–2024 season, and he even went on a nine-goal run in eight league games until a knee injury sidelined him. Now, fitness concerns have also delayed his preseason. After developing a calf issue in May, the 27-year-old has not appeared in any of Tottenham’s five preseason matches.
The team’s final preseason game is this Saturday against Bayern Munich. On Monday, August 19, they will begin their Premier League campaign at Leicester City. It’s now a battle against time for Richarlison to be available for the King Power Stadium match. Postecgolou has not yet responded to rumors that his team has contacted Bournemouth about a potential deal.
However, given that Solanke is probably going to have other alternatives, he has intimated that he will only sign the striker if he is eager to join Tottenham.
