Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon is desired by Leeds United, but he is also being targeted by Southampton, who may negotiate a deal with Spurs.
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Southampton midfielder Carlos ‘Charly’ Alcaraz and may give defender Joe Rodon as a sweetener to complete the transfer. Rodon spent last season on loan at Leeds United, and the Whites are seeking to reach an agreement with Tottenham to bring the Wales international back to Elland Road.
Leeds, however, are not alone in their pursuit of Rodon, as they face competition from three Championship promoted sides: Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town. With Spurs also interested in Leeds‘ teenager star Archie Gray, there had been speculation that if the Whites felt they needed to trade Grey, they could do so through a deal that would bring Rodon in the opposite direction.
Spurs are said to seek £10 million for Rodon, which is within Leeds‘ budget. However, the player has Premier League ambitions, and it is suggested that a swap deal with Southampton for Alcaraz plus a transfer fee would benefit all sides. The Sun reports that Alcaraz is on Spurs’ radar this summer, having spent the second half of last season at Juventus following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League in 2023.
Alcaraz is valued at roughly £30 million and is regarded as a promising young talent with a bright future. He made his Juventus debut in January, coming off the bench to replace Weston McKennie, a former Leeds midfielder.
After spending the last two seasons on loan, Rodon is looking for stability in his next move, and it is believed he would have stayed at Leeds if the team had achieved promotion. Speaking before the play-off final, he stated, “It would be nice to have stability and know where I stand next season.” I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level, and maybe I’ll be able to do so with Leeds, but anything can happen.
“I don’t want to look too far ahead, but I love life here, and Leeds feels like a second home to me now. I’m simply focused on doing my best and getting this club back to where it belongs.”
