Spurs scouts saw the Saints’ star multiple times towards the close of last season. West Ham‘s attempt for the midfielder was rejected earlier this week, therefore the north Londoners are prepared to play their cards.

Ange Postecoglou has already signed his primary target, James Maddison, from Leicester for a fee of £40 million. However, the ex-Celtic manager wants to bolster Spurs’ midfield options and sees Ward-Prowse, 28, as an excellent fit.

Tottenham still have money to spend, as Tanguy Ndombele is set to join Galatasaray for £11 million.
Postecoglou is also considering Giovani Lo Celso‘s future, who has attracted attention from Aston Villa but has excelled in preseason.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is in negotiations with Atletico Madrid over a £30 million transfer.

Saints executives are realistic about losing Ward-Prowse after relegation last season, but they will not trade him cheaply.

The England international, who has spent his whole career on the south coast, will also not pursue a move.

The Hammers made a bid in excess of £25 million for the set-piece expert. Southampton, on the other hand, still values their valuable asset at roughly £40 million.

The Spurs are said to be prepared to go far lower on the asking price if a deal can be completed soon.
