Tottenham Hotspur already need to play a game against Chelsea before the end of the season, but if Manchester City continues to advance in the FA Cup, the Lilywhites may need to rearrange their match against Pep Guardiola’s side as well.
With no European football to contend with and relatively early withdrawals from both domestic cup competitions, you would have expected Tottenham‘s Premier League schedule this season to be quite uncomplicated.
Indeed, thus far, but Ange Postecoglou‘s side appears to be facing issues.
The Lilywhites have already had one game postponed—Spurs were scheduled to play Chelsea last Friday, but that game was removed from the schedule due to Mauricio Pochettino‘s club reaching the Carabao Cup final.
How Manchester City might influence Tottenham’s timetable
It remains to be seen when that game will take place, but Spurs must now keep a watch on Manchester City‘s FA Cup run, which could present additional complications for the North London club’s schedule.
According to Football.London, if City beat Newcastle United in the FA Cup quarter-final on March 16th, they will go to the semi-finals on the weekend of April 20th.
That will conflict with Tottenham’s original meeting date with City, which is set for April 20th. Something will have to give, but it will not be the cup tie.
However, the game will most likely be rearranged for a midweek date, giving Postecoglou’s team less time to prepare after a weekend game for the massive challenge of stopping City in their tracks. It would also leave Spurs with a very packed end-of-season schedule.
Spurs Web Opinion
This is a potential headache, but so be it. Whatever it takes to get the fixtures scheduled, whenever we play City or anyone else, it will always be a tough game, so we just have to roll with the punches and play when we can.
