Tottenham Transfer News as Ryan Sessegnon is poised to quit the club this summer, after injury issues derail his final season.
Tottenham have informed Ryan Sessegnon that his contract will not be extended this summer, football.london has learned. The 24-year-old’s contract had an option for another year, but he will leave the club at the end of the month.
Sessegnon only appeared twice this season owing to ongoing injury troubles that have plagued his stay in north London. He will now be a free agent following only 57 appearances for Spurs since signing from Fulham for more than £20 million in 2019.
His last appearance for the club came on January 5 as a late substitute in a 1-0 FA Cup win over Burnley. That was his sole senior appearance, the other coming in mid-February for the Under-21s against West Ham.
Unsurprisingly, he has not been called up for the end-of-season friendly against Newcastle in Australia on Wednesday. Tottenham picked a 24-man squad for the encounter, leaving out Cristian Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
For Sessegnon, it marks the end of a terrible two years in which he has played a minor role for Tottenham. The dynamic defender has had surgery on both legs after hamstring problems hampered his career.
Earlier this year, he addressed the problems on social media. “I’ve been down this road before,” he posted on Instagram. “I’ll pick myself up, stay strong, and start my recuperation in the best way possible.
“Having been through an operation and the recovery on my other hamstring last year, and knowing how strong that hamstring is now, I know this is the best solution to put an end to the reoccurring issues.”
