Tottenham injury update: latest news and comeback dates for Brennan Johnson; Rodrigo Bentancur and Bryan Gil

Tottenham are looking for some encouraging news on the injury front this week.

Spurs are waiting for word on Brennan Johnson‘s fitness after he and several of his teammates missed the dramatic triumph over Liverpool.

Rodrigo Bentancur, like Ryan Sessegnon, is a long-term absentee who is steadily working his way back into contention.

Ivan Perisic will not be returning for a while, but Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso should be back soon. There were more immediate positives on the weekend, as James Maddison and Heung-min Son were cleared to play following injury concerns.

After Ange Postecoglou downplayed Johnson‘s recent absence, there is hope that he will be available to play against Luton this Saturday.
The striker was forced off an hour into the previous game against Arsenal due to a hamstring problem.

“It’s nothing serious, but he won’t be available this week,” Postecoglou said ahead of the Liverpool encounter.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Spurs have batted down recent speculation over Bentancur‘s probable return, saying they don’t want to rush him back from a serious knee injury.

“There’s no change,” the coach stated. “All Rodrigo is doing at the moment is warm-ups with the teams so he’s not doing it on his own, but he’s not participated in any sort of meaningful training yet.”

November is still being considered as a possible return date.

Gil is allegedly approaching a return to action after missing the start of the season due to a groin  injury that required surgery.

The Spanish winger is thought to have returned to training and will be eligible for selection soon.

Ivan Perisic

Tottenham revealed last week that Perisic had undergone surgery for a significant ACL injury.

The Croatian was photographed on crutches following the treatment in Austria, ahead of a six-month rehabilitation period.

The left-back has resumed modest training as part of his comeback from a hamstring injury.

He is still thought to be a few weeks away from joining the playing group, but considering Perisic‘s absence, he will be enthusiastically welcomed back when he is ready.

Giorgio Lo Celso

Lo Celso has been out with a hamstring strain since being left out of Argentina‘s international squad for their matches last month.

With his absence now spanning over a month, indications indicate that the midfielder will be out for at least another couple of weeks.
