In recent weeks, Tottenham Hotspur have been prominently linked with Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.
Spurs-related speculation is heating up now that the January transfer window is open.
The majority of the conjecture around Tottenham’s pursuit of Dragusin has been encouraging.
For example, Fabrizio Romano recently stated that the Romania international had reached an agreement with Spurs.
However, Sky Sport Italia has stated that Tottenham and Genoa are more far off in terms of valuation than previously reported.
Sky Sports UK claimed on Tuesday evening that there was a £5 million shortfall. However, the Italian publication thinks it is closer to £10 million.
Dragusin is reportedly valued at €35 million (just over £30 million) by Genoa. Meanwhile, Spurs are only willing to spend up to €23 million (£20 million).
Furthermore, Tottenham could be challenged soon by Napoli, who are apparently planning their own move for Dragusin.
The reigning Serie A champions are reportedly open to a player-plus-cash offer of €20 million (£17.4 million) plus Leo Ostigard.
However, Napoli is unlikely to make a larger offer, so the ball is very much in Spurs’ court in terms of raising their price and crossing the finish line.
Tottenham remain on track to sign Radu Dragusin.
So it appears that there is a stumbling block here. Nonetheless, this is part of the bargaining process. To begin with, few bidding teams will make a large offer.
We’re still in the early stages of the transfer window. That’s not to say Spurs should be complacent, but there’s still time to outbid Napoli while also not overpaying for Dragusin.
He’s a strong candidate for Tottenham. He’s been impressive in Serie A, is young and extremely talented, and, most importantly, appears to be available at a time when many clubs don’t want to lose their top players.
Dragusin was described as a “complete and dominant” center-back by Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout a few years ago. He’s come a long way since then, and his big career break is just around the corner. Will it take place at Spurs?
