Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou replies to questions about “unacceptable” club ambitions

The Spurs head coach, speaking before the Premier League trip to face Fulham at Craven Cottage, feels the direction of blame is wrong over an unpopular decision by the club administration.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou believes it is incorrect to blame tourists for the club’s contentious rise in ticket prices beginning next season.

Spurs have experienced outrage from supporters organisations over a 6% ticket increase next season, as well as the announcement that senior concessions will no longer be available.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust has even written to Premier League chief executive Richard Masters over the rise, calling the decision “unacceptable.”

However, Postecoglou, addressing at his pre-match press conference before of this evening’s trip to Fulham, believes it is incorrect to pin the increase on international supporters.

“That’s really harsh and I’ll tell you why because I’m probably plastic and touristy,” the man remarked. “I was coming from the other side of the world and was very enthusiastic about football, so seeing a Premier League game meant everything to me.

“I don’t think it’s fair to characterise individuals as ‘plastic’ or ‘tourists’ simply because they live on the other side of the world. “This football club has fans all over the world.”

West Ham‘s hammering of Freiburg on Thursday evening was excellent news for Spurs and the rest of the Premier League’s European ambitions, as it increased the likelihood that fifth place in the table would secure a Champions League position next season.

Tottenham are presently in fifth place, six points ahead of Manchester United and ten ahead of the Hammers, which should be good news.

Micky injured again2

However, Micky van de Ven‘s injury will make their immediate job against Fulham, who are buried in the middle of the table, more tough. However, Postecoglou has indicated that the defender wants to return after the international break.

Micky is the only one from last week; look, it’s not as severe as the last one, and he probably came off at the right time,” the Australian remarked yesterday of his hobbled centre half, who will miss two months of play at the end of 2023 due to a more serious injury. “He’ll miss tomorrow, but with the international break, we’re sure he won’t miss much longer.

“The only other one is Richarlison, Richy trained so if he pulls up okay he should be available.” Due to Van de Ven‘s absence, Radu Dragusin will make his first start since joining in January. Postecoglou continued, “I’ll take the suspense out of it – he’ll start tomorrow.”
