Tottenham might sign magnificent talent for £35 million less than his exit clause in a Postecoglou coup

Tottenham are expected to sign a top European player for £35 million less than his current release clause this summer, as Ange Postecoglou tries to overhaul his first-team roster.

Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League after a disappointing run-in, despite looking like they might qualify for the Champions League for a while.
After suffering five defeats in the final seven games of the season, Postecoglou was left with some uncomfortable questions about how a season that had so much promise early on could conclude so miserably.

And the outspoken Australian did not mince words when he revealed that he does not now have the players at his disposal to play the winning style of football that he desires in north London.
That has sparked wild conjecture about a slew of targets, however Postecoglou hopes to bring in another backup central defender, two central midfielders, and a world-class No.9 when the summer window opens.

Swedish superstar Lucas Bergvall is already on his way to the club, but the 18-year-old will need time to adjust and may not be in contention for a starting berth until the new season begins.

And, while another winger is not strictly a pressing requirement, especially after Timo Werner signed on for another season, sources from Portugal suggest that Marcus Edwards’ return to the club is still possible.

The Sporting star had already been linked with a return to north London, having left the club in 2019 in quest of regular first-team play.

After a time with Vitoria de Guimaraes, he signed for Sporting in January 2022 for a cheap €7.67 million and has since improved his game to the next level.

Tottenham back in the running for Edwards’ comeback.
Tottenham were heavily predicted to sign Edwards in January before opting for Werner on loan.

However, it has now been reported that Postecoglou might have his man for as little as £17 million, which is £35 million less than the original cost.

Edwards, 25, is also thought to be interested in returning to the Premier League, where he may pair up with a former Sporting colleague.

Pedro Porro was a major fan of Edwards during their time in Lisbon, describing him as a ‘amazing’ talent.

Edwards’ six goals and nine assists last season, as well as his ability to play anywhere on the frontline, even as a No.10, might make him an excellent addition for Postecoglou, especially at that price range.

At this moment, there is no mention of when Tottenham might make their bid for the player, although Postecoglou has previously stated publicly that he wants the team to conduct their business early to make the transition for new players smoother in pre-season.
