Tottenham now ready to buy Manchester City defender valued at £40m

It has been suggested that Manchester City are willing to unload one of their defenders, who has piqued Tottenham Hotspur’s interest this summer.

According to a report published on Monday, City would only make a major deal if one of their players leaves the club, thus sales may play a larger role in their transfer plan than in the past, involving regular starters, other first-team players, academy graduates, and project signings. Selling to another Premier League club might also help Pep Guardiola‘s side recoup significant amounts for potentially departing players.

Report reveals Tottenham and Yan Couto revelation amid Manchester City exit rumours.

Yan Couto‘s future appears to be unknown, as conflicting information regarding his plans emerge.

Couto signed a contract extension with City until 2026, according to reports from earlier this month.

However, it was also reported in June that the Sky Blues are willing to let the Brazilian depart the club.

The Sun (23/06/2024, page 56) reports that Tottenham are interested in signing Couto as an understudy to Pedro Porro, with the club aiming to unload Emerson Royal this summer.

Manchester City are reportedly wanting £40 million to sell the highly regarded right-back.

It has also been suggested that City may send the 22-year-old on another season-long loan following his one-year spell at Girona the previous season.

£40 million would be a fantastic return for Yan Couto.
If Tottenham or any other club agrees to pay a £40 million sum to buy Couto, Manchester City will be satisfied. In 2020, City paid only £5 million (Manchester Evening News) to secure his services for Coritiba.

Pep Guardiola

While the Brazilian international demonstrated his talent in a Girona shirt last season, he remains an unknown commodity, especially given that the Premier League is the top league in the world.

It appears like Kyle Walker will remain Manchester City’s first-choice right-back next season, with Rico Lewis, Manuel Akanji, and John Stones serving as backups.

With that in mind, perhaps earning £40 million from Couto would be excellent business for City.
