Tottenham plans huge spendings on ‘marquee’ signing

Tottenham are set to spend heavily on one “marquee” acquisition this summer, according to Football Insider sources.

As Ange Postecoglou attempts to overhaul his team ahead of the transfer season, a potential blockbuster acquisition might be bolstered by several less expensive deals.

ANGE CHIN

According to sources, Spurs might break the £63 million transfer record set by Lyon to buy Tanguy Ndombele in 2019 by signing a star forward this summer.

There are suggestions that the north London club is taking its time before making a “huge” approach for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

However, there have been no hints that the Tyneside club is eager to transfer the Sweden international at this time following his remarkable performance last season.

ISAK

The 24-year-old is under contract at St James’ Park until 2028, having signed a six-year deal following his club-record £63 million transfer from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Tottenham could make an offer to sign Alexander Isak.

Isak had a successful season with Newcastle, scoring 25 goals in 40 appearances as his club finished seventh in the Premier League.

That record has piqued the interest of numerous elite teams, with Football Insider reporting last month that Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal had added him to a four-man shortlist of potential forward recruits for the summer.

Tanguy

Newcastle are expected to stick to the financial fair play (FFP) line again, although they want to keep Isak at St James’ Park next season.

Football Insider reported on June 9 that the north-east giants had begun negotiations with the Swede about signing a new contract after his remarkable performance last season.

Bringing in a new striker is thought to be one of Postecoglou’s top goals this summer, with Football Insider reporting last month that Spurs will accept bids for Richarlison to help pay any prospective incomings.
