Tottenham risk losing a regular starter to Real Madrid after failing to meet major demand

Real Madrid could poach a key Tottenham player amid growing worries that the club is incapable of matching his ambition, while Spurs have taken steps to prevent a departure, according to sources.

Tottenham has had another frustrating season so far, with the last three results highlighting the club’s failure to progress.

Spurs defeated Manchester City 4-0, their best season-to-date result. However, they were forced to a 2-2 draw by Roma in the Europa League before losing points in a 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday.

Tottenham have now suffered five defeats in the Premier League this season. While they are only three points behind fourth place, they will need to be much more consistent if they are to qualify for the Champions League.

According to a recent talkSPORT report, UCL football is gradually becoming a must-have for centre-back Cristian Romero.

‘Tottenham fear losing defender Cristian Romero if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.’

Real Madrid are ‘known admirers’ of the centre-back and intend to acquire at least three new defenders in 2025. Right-back, left-back, and centre-half positions are all open for recruitment.

TalkSPORT stated that Romero is ‘eager to test himself against Europe’s top’ in the Champions League. Failure to qualify could lead to the 26-year-old requesting to leave.

Tottenham take efforts to prevent Cristian Romero’s escape.
Romero’s desire to play consistently in the Champions League is understandable.

He has only appeared in one UCL campaign (2022/23 season) since joining Spurs. Tottenham finished first in their group after a last-minute victory over Marseille on matchday six, but were eliminated from the competition by AC Milan in the first round.

Romero, when completely healthy, will be critical to Tottenham‘s ambitions to return to that competition next season.

However, according to TBR Football, Tottenham have already made steps to avoid what would undoubtedly be a negative exit.

According to reports, Spurs have approached Romero’s camp in order to officially begin contract extension negotiations.

Romero‘s willingness to listen to what they have to say may be determined by the likelihood of UCL qualification.

Ironically, many Spurs fans would point to Romero’s drop in form this season as one of the reasons they are not currently ranked in the top four.

Latest Tottenham news: Toney, Fagioli

In other developments, astonishing claims from Spain indicate Ivan Toney might yet move for Tottenham or Chelsea less than six months after joining Al-Ahli.

The two London clubs are believed to have maintained their interest in the striker, who is already considering a fast return to England.

TuttoJuve has revealed Tottenham are interested in signing Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli.

Spurs‘ positive relationship with Juventus may benefit the club, according to reports. Indeed, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski were also acquired from Juve in recent years.
