Tottenham target Middlesborough midfielder Hayden Hackney

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney this summer.

Hackney has been a notable player in the Championship for Middlesbrough this season. The 21-year-old scored on Tuesday night, giving Michael Carrick‘s side a critical one-goal advantage in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

Boro are now bracing for a slew of transfer proposals in the summer for the England under-21 international, who is receiving interest from Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham.

Hackney’s contract at the Riverside Stadium runs until June 2027, and the midfielder is worth £6 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Spurs have had a very busy transfer window. They have already signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig and reached an agreement with Genoa for Radu Dragusin. He has completed his medical, and an official announcement is coming soon.

Spurs are now trying to sign a new midfielder, with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher being their primary target.

Hackney has become the Jewel of Middlesbrough’s midfield, capable of dismantling opponent pushes by adeptly manoeuvring through the middle of the pitch.

Hackney, a very skilled playmaker, is responsible for starting many of Middlesbrough’s offensive movements, frequently delivering transitional or line-breaking passes to carry their attacks ahead.

The England under-21 midfielder has no desire to leave The Smoggies after rising through the ranks at Middlesbrough Academy. The team, which hopes to clinch a playoff berth in the tough Championship, recognises that Hackney’s departure is unavoidable.

Middlesbrough intends to establish a competitive bidding environment, with Tottenham expressing a strong interest in the midfielder as they look to enhance their squad for the present and future.

A move to Tottenham at a time when the club’s performance is improving makes a lot of sense, as Hackney would be able to learn under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou, one of the top young talent trainers.

Hackney’s defensive efficiency is enhanced by his perseverance and well-timed aggression in duels, which are matched by his strong technical ability. He exhibits an excellent ability to anticipate his opponent’s actions, placing himself nearby and pouncing on a light touch.

While Hackney may not always succeed in completely dispossessing his opponent, his strength is in obstructing their progress, severely slowing them down. This talent would be vital, especially in a powerful club like Tottenham, where preventing counter-attacks is critical.
