Tottenham Hotspur are among the most outraged clubs in the Premier League, according to iNews, after Manchester City sued the league to amend the spending limits.
Manchester City takes the Premier League to court.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’ll be aware that the Premier League is in the midst of a major civil war, with a hearing set to begin on Monday after Manchester City filed a legal claim against the League.
According to The Times, one of the City’s primary objections is that related party transaction (APT) laws are invalid, with the Premier League champions actively advocating for sponsorship deals to be exempt from examination.
If the APT rules were lifted, state-owned clubs would benefit since they would be able to negotiate deals with associated state-owned firms at significantly higher costs.
Tottenham furious with Manchester City.
According to iNews, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool are the’most exorcised’ clubs in terms of City’s challenge to the Premier League’s ATP regulations.
The three teams, along with a few other clubs, are claimed to be enraged because City’s owners are aiming to provide the club unlimited spending power.
According to one club source, Manchester City are essentially claiming they should be entitled to do whatever they want. They want to create a new kind of football.
“What’s truly galling is that their activities are so fake, because they’re not questioning the profitability and sustainability criteria that everyone else must follow.
“They’re not against the spending rules, they’re just trying to make sure they don’t apply to them.”
If the ATP limitations are repealed and Newcastle and City are granted limitless spending power, the Premier League will suffer greatly.
The rivalry will just become about who has the most wealthy and influential owners, rather than being meritocratic.
