Tottenham’s £1.2 billion stadium has been’significantly damaged,’ according to police, who have made one arrest.

Tottenham’s £1.2 billion stadium has reportedly sustained’significant’ damage.

Tottenham‘s £1.2 billion stadium has reportedly suffered “significant damage,” with one individual arrested following an incident on Monday night. Parts of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were allegedly vandalised during the first week of the international break, necessitating a large repair.

On Monday, vandals allegedly attacked the ground, and police arrested one person in connection with the crime. According to the Daily Mail, there is no evidence that the incident was motivated by the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, which is significant given Spurs’ Jewish community connections.

According to the article, the cost of repairs will be at least six figures, with’significant’ damage to the arena.

“We can confirm that an individual was arrested for criminal damage following an incident that occurred on Monday night,” the Spurs said in a statement. There is no evidence that this act was motivated by anti-Semitism.”

Spurs invested around £1.2 billion developing the stadium, which opens in 2019. It is built on the same grounds as the historic White Hart Lane stadium of the north London club.

The club left their previous home in 2017 and spent a year and a half at Wembley Stadium. They played their first match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 3, 2019, defeating Crystal Palace 2-0.

Spurs dipped in and out of the Champions League for the next few years due to inconsistency under Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte. However, Ange Postecoglou’s hiring in the summer appears to have had a favourable impact.

Spurs have gone unbeaten in their first eight Premier League games under the Australian manager. Postecoglou insists that his players’ feet are firmly planted on the ground.

“They’re not silly, they know it’s only October and being top of the league now doesn’t really mean anything tangible apart from the fact that we’ve started the season well,” he remarked after a 1-0 win over Luton last weekend.

“We’ve played some good football and faced a variety of different challenges.” We’ve fallen behind in road games and had to come from behind to win. It hasn’t all been plain sailing.

“We’ve had to work awfully hard to be in the position we are and I guess from my perspective it’s great that they’re getting rewarded with results and that can only help us grow as a team.”
