Tottenham’s January transfer priority may have shifted as a result of Jean-Clair Todibo negotiations

The latest edition of Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham is now available, and it discusses the January transfer window as well as Saturday’s game versus Everton.

The January transfer window will open for business in just over a week. Tottenham, who made some good summer signings, will be looking for more of the same as they aim for a strong finish to the season.

In terms of prospective new arrivals, Ange Postecoglou needs to prioritise a new center-back, as he currently lacks options in that position. Tottenham have held negotiations with Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to football.london on Monday.

The French international has made a big impression in Ligue 1 over the last few seasons, and a deal for the 23-year-old would be a tremendous statement of intent for Spurs. Previously it appeared that a left-footed centre-back would be necessary in January to cover for Micky van de Ven, but given Todibo’s right-footedness, they may have changed their mind.

Ben Davies has shown in recent weeks that he is a suitable deputy to the Netherlands international, and his impressive form may have influenced Spurs‘ thinking. Because Emerson Royal appears to be favoured above Eric Dier to replace Cristian Romero if he is unavailable, Todibo might be the player to truly push the World Cup winner for his spot.

Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest, our Spurs correspondents, covered all of the above in the latest episode of their Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast. In addition to the latest transfer news, Saturday’s game against Everton is a significant topic of discussion on the podcast, with the Toffees heading into the game in excellent form, having won ten of their last 15 games in all competitions.
