Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has indicated that the club is more in control of departing players as the transfer window comes to a conclusion.
Farke stated that as the transfer window closes, the club’s stance in maintaining its star players strengthens as they are able to stick to their demands.
He also indicated that there were discussions and an acknowledgement within the club that August would be a difficult month for transfer speculation, since teams were always likely to increase their interest.
The manager remarked to the media on the 16th of August, before of Friday night’s encounter with West Brom, as reported by Leeds Live [13:33]: “We spoke quite openly, honestly, and transparently that it would be a bumpy August.”
“As we get closer to the end of the transfer window, we gain more control of the situation.” This is what has occurred in recent days. It’s calmed down. The closer we go to the window, the more control we have.”
Trying valiantly to hang on
Leeds have had a rocky summer, with a total rebuild of the first-team roster required due to an exodus of stars following their relegation from the Premier League, with very little money coming in to compensate for the movements.
As the transfer window closes, Leeds will be hoping to keep some of its Premier League stars despite interest from abroad, as their bargaining position strengthens, particularly with reference to Willy Gnonto.
Leeds have been resolute in their stance that they would not trade the Italian this summer, despite interest from Everton and Crystal Palace, as well as Italian clubs. The more the transaction drags on, the more probable it appears he will stay unless a large offer is made out of desperation.
Fans will be looking forward to the end of the transfer window, when the attention will shift away from who will and will not be at the club and towards who can produce for them in a crucial Championship season.
