Fenerbahce, a Turkish club, is stepping up its efforts to capture Tottenham’s star, who is now getting some attention from Postecoglou.
According to Turkish daily Takvim, a board member from Turkish giants Fenerbahce flew to Tottenham to discuss the potential of a move for Eric Dier. The contract of the 29-year-old will expire in the summer. It seems improbable that an extension will be signed.
Dier has been with the club since 2014, making 363 appearances for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt). The English defender has done his duty as a dependable anchor for the defensive line.
However, his time at the club appears to be coming to an end, as Turkish club Fenerbahce has initiated transfer talks with Tottenham Hotspur. If a substantial offer is made, Dier may be gone as soon as January.
The English defender has frequently been benched. Postecoglou has occasionally used fullbacks instead of a classic centre-back like Dier. Now that Ben Davies and Cristian Romero have returned, the 29-year-old will slide further down the pecking order.
A change of location may be beneficial to Dier’s career. He may be too conservative for Postecoglou’s approach, but the Turkish style of football should suit him well.
The Lilywhites have been looking for a center-back for quite some time. Dier will very certainly not be offloaded until a replacement has been recruited. Postecoglou cannot risk further thinning his roster.
It’s probable that Tottenham’s board of directors will not let the 29-year-old leave for free. Which he will do if his contract is not renewed.
The Spurs are expected to go all out in January, according to fans. Signing a CB while also offloading Dier is a distinct possibility. Postecoglou will leave no stone left in his pursuit of the Premier League crown.
