Jakub Moder, a midfielder for Brighton who represents Poland, has not played for more than a year due to an ACL injury.
After more than a year on the sidelines, Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder appears to be getting closer to making a comeback in league play.
Moder, 24, moved from Lech Pozna to Brighton in 2020 for almost £7 million. His Premier League career got off to a promising start, and under then-manager Graham Potter, he was a fixture in the Albion midfield.
The 6ft 2in, athletic Polish international was a standout performer who attracted attention with his late, midfield dashes forward. On April 2, 2022, during a 0-0 home draw against Norwich, Moder suffered a catastrophic ACL knee injury just as he was beginning to perform at his peak for club and nation.
The rest of the season, the 2022 World Cup, and the subsequent 2022–2023 season were all missed by him. The former Pozna player has not yet made an appearance under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, although he is now taking part in full training with the first team group and is rumoured to have featured in friendly matches staged behind closed doors.
Ahead of a hectic run of games, De Zerbi is eager to have Moder available as injuries elsewhere are beginning to affect Brighton. The Europa League match against Ajax this Thursday at the Amex is anticipated to come too soon for Moder, but hints of a comeback in the upcoming weeks look hopeful.
De Zerbi’s main issue with Albion’s transition to life without Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, who both left in the summer, has been the centre midfield area. It’s difficult to have high expectations for Moder too soon, but the Seagulls are given a boost when he returns to full condition.
