‘Very good…’ Ange Postecoglou was blown away by a 23-year-old Tottenham Hotspur player against Newcastle United.

Ange Postecoglou praised Dejan Kulusevski after his performance against Newcastle United today.

Spurs defeated Newcastle United 4-1 at White Hart Lane, with goals from Destiny Udogie, Richarlison, and Son Heung-Min.

Dejan Kulusevski

Tottenham were in desperate need of a positive outcome after failing to win any of their previous five Premier League games.

Following the setback to West Ham the previous week, Postecoglou made a handful of alterations to his starting lineup on Sunday. Richarlison went up front, while Pape Matar Sarr returned to the midfield.

forth the absence of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski played a key role, and the Swede put forth another good performance.

Postecoglou was impressed by Kulusevski’s performance.

Postecoglou was asked about Kulusevski‘s performances in the middle of the pitch by Sky Sports following today’s game.

“Yeah, very good,” Spurs manager remarked. “Again, due to what we’ve gone through in terms of injuries, he’s had to play a variety of roles.”

“Everywhere he’s played he’s always been effective and I thought he was really effective today.”

Under Postecoglou, Kulusevski has rapidly established himself as an important player, starting every Premier League game this season.

Brennan Johnson

Spurs have benefited greatly from his ability to play centrally, especially with Maddison out until the new year.

After some encouraging previous performances from the Argentine, dropping Giovani Lo Celso to the bench today felt a little harsh.

Despite this, Spurs looked more balanced in the middle of the park thanks to Sarr’s return, and Kulusevski‘s ball-carrying abilities caused Newcastle considerable problems all afternoon.

It remains to be seen whether Kulusevski will become a more permanent fixture in Spurs‘ midfield. But he appears to be enjoying his new role in Postecoglou’s team.
