Antonio Nusa had a’very rough’ last week of the transfer window, with the Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford target missing out on a £31 million move to the Premier League.
There were discussions with Tottenham Hotspur. Brentford, meanwhile, agreed to a contract worth an initial £25 million.
However, as the clock struck 11 p.m. on deadline day, Antonio Nusa was still a Club Brugge player, as HITC Football had been notified that a knee injury had ended the Norway international’s dreams of joining Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland in English football.
Despite all of the uncertainty and understandable disappointment, Nusa will now be left out of the Club Brugge squad for the forthcoming games against Royal Antwerp and Union Saint-Gilloise, with coach Ronny Deila claiming that the adolescent may benefit from some time away from the spotlight.
Spurs and Brentford wanted Antonio Nusa
“It’s been a difficult week for him and everyone. After everything that has happened, Antonio requires some rest. “It’s sad, but we look forward,” the former Celtic manager tells Het Nieuwsblad.
“The positive thing is that we can still call on him this season.”
Deila had made no secret of his desire to keep Nusa, even if he did allow that a Tottenham team playing a dynamic brand of forward-thinking football under Ange Postecoglou could have been a better fit for a player dubbed Norway’s equivalent to Neymar.
‘It is sad.’
“He has travelled much and had numerous conversations. And then there was that sudden twist,” Deila says, alluding to Brentford’s knee injury that caused them to withdraw.
“We communicate with him every day. He is a boy we must care for. I’m hoping to bring the best out of him again soon. It remains to be seen when Nusa will be at his best again. “If that doesn’t work this season, maybe next season.”
Whether Nusa remains a Club Brugge player in 2024/25 may depend on whether the 18-year-old can alleviate his fitness concerns in the coming months. Tottenham, Brentford, and other clubs will undoubtedly keep a careful eye on the situation.
Meanwhile, Tottenham appear to be on the verge of signing another of Europe’s rising stars. Lucas Bergvall should join in an £8.5 million deal, with Barcelona missing out on Djurgardens‘ wonderkid.
