Tottenham’s loss to Wolves dealt a blow to their hopes of finishing in the top four, as it allowed Aston Villa to move into fourth position, dropping Spurs to fifth.
The defense, without the injured Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro, appeared vulnerable on the counterattack. Once again, they let a goal to go by on a set piece.
Tottenham dominated possession (78%) but unable to convert in the final third. Son Heung-min remained mute for the whole of the game, and Richarlison had limited opportunities and rarely looked dangerous.
Dejan Kulusevski scored the sole goal for the North London club in a moment of brilliance, dancing around a defender and slotting the ball between the keeper’s legs one minute into the second half. Ben Davies came close to making a similar effect when he found himself on the end of a Kulusevski cross in the fourth minute of stoppage time, but his shot went just over the bar.
The players will now have a full two weeks off before facing Crystal Palace on March 2nd. In the meanwhile, it appears the squad needs to take training very seriously, and that’s precisely what goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario had to say on Instagram
Taking over for former club captain and veteran Hugo Lloris was not a simple feat, but Vicario has been superb since arriving in North London from Serie A team Empoli.
There’s no doubt that the Italian goalkeeper will be a valuable asset in the future, and with his leadership on and off the field, he should be able to motivate his teammates to meet the expectations they’ve set for themselves.
