Radu Dragușin is reportedly on his way to London and will soon sign a contract with Tottenham, albeit this is not yet official, according to the Italian media.
But because the center-back is from Romania, the deal is also receiving a lot of press there. His agent, Florin Manea, discussed the move with GSP.
The agent, in fact, finds it hard to comprehend what has transpired in the last few hours after Bayern Munich made a desperate attempt, which he had to turn down in favor of Tottenham in order to honor his client’s desires.
He made it apparent right away that “everything is ready” for the defender to join Spurs; he will travel to London with his agency to get a medical.
Manea continues, “This morning, at 8am, the decision was made to go to Tottenham after Bayern came in with their offer the night before.”
“We stopped dead,” he murmured. We had left for the airport. I mentioned that we needed to consider and assess. One of the biggest clubs is Bayern. It still amazes me that I declined Bayern! However, that’s the choice.
Along with Radu and his family, I took it. Bayern came in at the last minute, so I told them this was the decision and that it was hard to change our mind.
Perhaps we shall arrive there in the future. We feel a bit overpowered. To decline Bayern… However, in the end, that’s what Radu and his family want. He is content. We will be visiting Tottenham!
Manea disclosed that although his client had considered Bayern’s offer the previous evening, he had already made up his mind.
“I made the decision in the morning,” he said. Making such a decision is challenging. Although Bayern was quite interested in him, the official offer was made on the final night. Bayern offered more money, but he insisted that this was the correct move for his career. We spent the entire night thinking. I slept very little. We lingered to ascertain the benefits and drawbacks.
Draguşin will be earning a substantial raise at Tottenham, where he is expected to make about €3 million annually, but Bayern was willing to pay him even more.
Manea continued, “He did not choose the money. There was more in Bayern. He stated that this is the correct step for his career. He chose his career over money, which is admirable. I am not sure how many people would have refused Bayern’s offer. Many people did not believe we would turn down Bayern. I said this was the proper step.
“There was a significant difference. Almost half as much, if not more, but forget the numbers. They were never a priority. We always choose the steps we believe are correct. I believe he considered the fact that he had always desired to play in the Premier League.
Manea also stated that Tottenham were a long way from meeting Genoa’s demands for the defender.
This was the point at which they determined that if an agreement could be reached, they would go to Spurs, and if not, Bayern.
However, he stated that ‘Tottenham made a tremendous effort’ to acquire the player and that there are only’small issues to be worked out’, with 99% of the move agreed upon.
