West Ham United are interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Sam Greenwood, who is valued at £1.5 million by Middlesbrough.
After impressing on loan at Middlesbrough, Leeds United’s Sam Greenwood is now wanted by West Ham United.
TEAMtalk reports that West Ham is one of a number of clubs interested in signing Greenwood.
Leeds signed Greenwood from Arsenal in 2020 in a deal worth up to £3 million.
Greenwood struggled to get first-team minutes and was loaned out to Middlesbrough for the season.
West Ham United are interested in signing Sam Greenwood from Leeds United.
Greenwood, a former striker who also played in midfield for Leeds, is now primarily used on Boro’s left flank.
Greenwood has four goals and two assists in 13 Championship games for Boro, and he is now attracting interest.
West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Greenwood, but Boro’s permanent option will be an issue.
If Greenwood agrees to the loan move, Michael Carrick‘s side can make it permanent for just £1.5 million.
West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Fulham, Leicester, and Southampton are among the Premier League clubs interested in Greenwood.
Boro may exercise that option and sell him, but the permanent clause means a January transfer is unlikely.
Leeds will probably wish they had set the permanent fee a little higher because £1.5 million is looking like a steal for Greenwood.
Greenwood joining the Premier League would be a disappointment, but the Whites will almost certainly have a sell-on clause in the deal.
The 21-year-old had previously shown promise, and his form for Boro comes as no surprise.
Greenwood is now wanted by West Ham, which would undoubtedly appeal to any Championship player after Jarrod Bowen’s success in East London.
This appears to be a summer move, and Boro will hope to push for promotion while also increasing their chances of keeping Greenwood long term.
