West Ham United are reportedly considering a £60 million bid for Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, with Hammers manager David Moyes wanting to get both players.
The Europa Conference League champions are thought to have recently failed with a £20 million bid for Maguire, who remains frequently linked with a move away from Old Trafford.McTominay is also said to be a top target for the Hammers, though it has been reported that an offer of £40 million would be required for the Red Devils to contemplate moving him this summer.according to a recent source, West Ham are prepared to hold negotiations with the 20-time English champions about a transfer for McTominay, who is rumored to be looking to leave Old Trafford in quest of regular starts.
According to Football Insider, West Ham believe that £30 million for each player is a fair assessment, and the London club is thus working on a £60 million double deal.Following Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal, the Hammers have money to spend this summer, while Gianluca Scamacca is thought to be close to joining Atalanta BC.Maguire was an unused replacement in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Lens, while McTominay was ruled out with a slight injury.
During preseason, Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag stated several times that he wanted to keep Maguire at the club for the 2023-24 season. However, the former Sheffield United youth has had the captain’s armband stripped from him this summer, and there is no obvious avenue for him to return to the team. The 30-year-old only started eight Premier League games last season and will require regular play next season to preserve his starting spot for England ahead of Euro 2024.
McTominay, on the other hand, was only picked to a Premier League starting XI ten times last season, with 14 of his 24 games in England’s top tier coming off the bench.Ten Hag is said to want to keep the Scotland international, but he won’t be able to guarantee him consistent playing time with Casemiro, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Man United are also looking to bring in another defensive midfielder, with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat considered as their top target in that position.
